How do I provide you with the information you need to write my résumé?

Our information gathering process involves the completion of our résumé questionnaire followed by our in-depth evaluation process where we evaluate, pinpoint crucial components, and further question you regarding the information provided via email to draw out quantifiable contributions and achievements. This evaluation is an important step in the process as often clients can miss important information which can be developed into an impressive achievement.

Of course, if your current résumé has enough information for us to send you targeted questions to draw out this information, we will email these to you instead of you having to complete the résumé questionnaire. If you would like to email us your existing résumé, I will advise whether we would require you to complete the résumé questionnaire or not.

What do you do that is different?

Keraijen is not a template driven company which designs résumés that are a ‘one-size-fits-all’. You are presented with a unique an individually crafted marketing document that is modelled on your skills and experience that will lead to job search success.

Our expertise as a Certified Résumé Writer and our in-depth information gathering process is what sets us apart. Keraijen understands that your résumé must be an effective marketing document in order to generate interviews. This is where the information gathering process comes in. In order to market you effectively, we need to gather as much information about you, your expertise, achievements, vision, and overall value.

How long does the résumé process take?

This will vary from client to client. Our turnaround to complete the résumé package (except Executive Edge) is 5 business days, once we receive your completed questionnaire and answers to targeted questions - no earlier. We will not reduce this turnaround to meet a deadline, as we will not compromise ourselves - or you - by producing a second-rate document. We pride ourselves on quality and each document is individually created with a purpose - to generate interviews

Overall turn-around will depend on how long it takes the client to provide us with the required information, however, on average general client turn-around is 7-10 days.

Of course add-ons such a biographies, web portfolios, selection criteria can extend the life of the project, therefore it is recommended that you consult with Keraijen to determine the project timeframe.

Do you offer a 24-48hr turnaround?

The answer to this is simple…NO, we won’t risk quality. All of our résumé packages have a minimum 5-day turnaround (except the Executive Edge package which is 2-3 weeks). We will not reduce this turnaround to meet a deadline.

If you are after a résumé ‘today’ or ‘yesterday’ then unfortunately we are not the right company for you. Keraijen is not a template driven company which designs résumés that are a ‘one-size-fits-all’. We design customised packages that reflect your individuality and highlight your career assets.

Keraijen makes no apologies for our timeframe, as quality time must be invested in order to develop a résumé which is unique – just like you. We have established a reputation for producing quality résumés that lead to job search success. Trying to rush a résumé for a deadline will result in a second-rate document that won’t generate the results you were intending.

Individually purchased items such as cover letters, thank you letters, biographies, philosophies of education and selection criteria generally have a 3-5 business day turnaround. In some instances a rush order can be accepted for cover letters and thank you letters, however, these are subject to a 35% loading and need to have approval by Keraijen before proceeding - otherwise standard turnaround times apply.

Do you have experience within my field/industry?

As a résumé writing specialist with experience writing more than 3000+ résumés, more than likely we have written résumés within your field/industry. We have developed résumés for people from all walks of life, from student new graduates to senior executives. Whether you are a CEO, CIO, CFO, IT professional, tradesperson, nurse, medical practitioner, solicitor, architect, teacher, educational administrators, or sales and marketing professionals, we can write an effective marketing tool for you.

If by chance you have an occupation that we are unfamiliar with, then we have at our disposal a network of specialist both in Australia and worldwide for which we can refer you to. If we are not familiar with your field/industry, than Keraijen will not write your résumé – as our reputation is based on producing quality résumés and we cannot write a quality résumé if we do not understand the field/industry. Referring you to someone who specializes in your industry/field will put you at an added advantage over your competition.

Do you include paper copies and folders?

We are trying our best to "go green". Times have changed and the methods by which job seekers go about their job searches have adapted and changed too. A decade or so ago, jobs were primarily sought by turning to the newspaper classifieds once or twice a week. Today, most homes in Australia possess a computer and an Internet connection, and the vast majority of job seekers look for employment at the large career sites where they can upload a resume or email it to a recruiter. The immediacy of the electronic age has revolutionized the job search process, and very few job seekers now print and send their applications by mail.

In reviewing our packages between 2004 and 2008, we determined that paper resumes had largely become a thing of the past and Keraijen transitioned to electronic-only formats, allowing us to freeze our pricing for 12-18 months, meet the needs of a changing sector and respond proactively to environmental concerns.

Of course, for those clients still needing professionally printed and bound copies, this service is available through our optional add-ons below each package.

Do you guarantee interview success?

Keraijen stands by the quality of her work. If there is something that you would like altered, Keraijen will work collaboratively with you in this process. We will explain your options and offer alternative solutions so that the integrity of the document will not be compromised.

With regards to guaranteeing interviews, Keraijen does not guarantee job placement or employment success as we have no control over how our clients integrate our cover letters and résumés with their job search strategies.

Keraijen’s goal is to provide the best possible résumé package for each of our clients and ensuring you are happy with the final documents.

Do you offer face-to-face consultations? I want to sit down and talk with someone to discuss my options.

Keraijen’s business model today is an online business, as this allows us to work with both local and international clients. We deal exclusively via electronic means (email, internet, and fax).

We have found that this process works well for our clients in today’s environment of endless business meetings. The information gathering process is something that cannot be finished in a 1-hour interview. It requires thought and effort to remember major milestones you achieved in your previous positions.

Keraijen offers real value for money and the convenience of being able to take your time and think about career issues in detail.

I don’t know which package is suitable for me?

The packages have been broken down below, however, if you are still confused about which package is suitable for you, then please do not hesitate to contact us either through the office (02) 9994 8050 or email us. Please feel free to email us your existing résumé and advise the type of position you are targeting, and we will only be too happy to advise which package is suitable for you.

  • Student/New Graduate package – this package is only for students/new graduates who do not have any full time work experience – only part-time and casual experience. Students with full time work experience fall into the following categories depending on how much experience you have.
  • Aspiring Manager’s package – this package is suitable for our young professionals who have up to 5-years work experience behind them.
  • Strictly Professional package – this package is suitable more for mid-career professionals who have over 5-years work experience. This includes Managers but not Senior Managers.
  • Career Transition package – this package is suitable for individuals wanting to move into a new industry or field. Part of the package involves a career transition session with our Coach to give you clarity around your new career direction.
  • Leader on the Rise – this package is reserved for Managers wanting to move into more senior level executive positions such as National Sales Managers, Country Managers, Senior Financial Analysts, etc.
  • Unquestionable Executive & Executive Edge – these packages are reserved for senior level executives who are at the pinnacle of their career such as CEO’s, CFO’s, CIO’s, etc.

How do the DISC profiles help me?

The Behavioural Assessments identify your special talents, your communication style, and how your positive characteristics can be valuable in the workplace. These reports will help you in learning how to improve your interviewing skills and performance, use your knowledge to adapt your behavior, and improve your interpersonal skills.

If your package includes a DISC profile report, we will email you with website and password protected link details for completion. Upon completion, you will be emailed the report.

What is interview telecoaching?

Telecoaching is the shortened form of “telephone coaching”. We arrange sessions with our coach Annemarie Cross, Australia’s first Certified Interview Professional (CEIP) and author of Ace that Interview. Annemarie is also a Master NLP Practitioner and Accredited MBTI® (Myers Briggs Type Indicator) Practitioner who will be able to either give you confidence for the interview or give you clarity around your career progression.

Some of the areas covered include identifying and developing strategies to eliminate self sabotaging tendencies; analyzing the various interview types; negotiating and maximizing your salary package; behavioural interview techniques; your 30-second elevator speech; how to hurdle tough questions about sensitive topics (job hopping, demotions, sackings) and much more. You will receive extensive information via email that you can read after your sessions.

Unfortunately due to time differences and the cost of long distance calls, this service is not available outside Australia, unless the international client is willing to call our Coach at a time that is suitable to her.

When do you start my résumé and how should I pay?

Payment must be received and cleared before any work is commenced. This can be done directly through our website using Paypal's secure server. Once your payment is processed via PayPal, you will be redirected to our thank you page where you can download the appropriate questionnaire for your package in either Word of PDF format. Fill it in and email or fax it back to us as soon as possible.

If you prefer not to pay online through our website, we also accept money orders, bank cheques and direct deposits into our account (bank details will be provided upon request). Note that cheques must be cleared before any work commences.

What happens after I pay?

Upon receipt of payment, you will be redirected to our thank you page where you can download our résumé questionnaire for your completion and return. When you have finished completing the questionnaire, email it to us.

We will review your résumé questionnaire, and if we require further information, we will email you targeted questions within 24hrs (next business day).

When we have received the answers to these targeted questions, we will start the résumé writing process, with draft documents emailed to you within 5 business days for your review and comment.

Do you offer refunds?

No, we do not offer refunds as we are providing a service not a product. Certified Résumé Writing is a specialist field, and as such our no refunds policy is enforced. We recommend you read our policies and terms before proceeding.

Will you provide a critique of my résumé if I send it?

We offer two options for critiquing. We can provide a general overview of the improvements we would look at doing to your résumé at no cost or we can conduct an in-depth critique of your résumé for a cost of $85.

With this in-depth critique, we will give you our professional opinion and solutions on such things as format, layout and presentation, how your résumé communicates your value to a prospective employer, whether it is an effective marketing document, and any other areas that raise a red flag. If you decide to use our services to create your résumé after receiving our in-depth, we will deduct $30 from the price of your package.

It should be noted that the general overview for improvements does not offer the price reduction – only the in-depth critique.

What is the difference between a résumé and a CV?

Technically a résumé is a different document to a Curriculum Vitae (C.V.) – however, most people believe they are the same. Depending on which country you are from can determine the phrase that is used – for example, the US prefer the term résumé, while in the UK, CV is the preferred term. In Australia we use both CV and résumé.

So what is the difference? A résumé is a marketing document, while a CV tends to be used by academic, legal, medical and scientific professionals presenting their education, publications, papers presented and other pertinent information. CV’s are also longer than résumés. Résumés for the Australian market tend to be 3-4 pages (maximum of 5), while résumés for other countries such as the UK and US are 2-pages in length. It is important if applying for international positions, that you keep your résumé within the specific résumé requirements for each country.

I want to apply for jobs overseas; do you know what I need to do?
It's really important to know that employers are not the same in every country. What works in Australia, will not have the same affect in the United Kingdom or USA. In fact, in some cases, submitting an inappropriate résumé could jeopardise your job search success. With experience and contacts across the globe, we can easily create a résumé that will stand out for all the right reasons, wherever you wish to work.

I have to provide Selection Criteria for my application, can you help?

Yes, we have written selection criteria for many clients. Selection Criteria responses need to be very specific and appropriate for the position. In most cases you need to demonstrate your abilities and a lot of our clients find it difficult to put this into words.

The language and wording for these applications (also known as keywords) must be spot on in order to be successful in gaining an interview. In general, there are 4 parts to your application:

  • a cover sheet
  • a covering letter
  • a résumé
  • a statement of claims against the selection criteria

We have experience completing selection criteria for government, medical, teaching and corporate positions.

What is a Scannable Résumé?

Many companies and recruiters use scanners to scan résumés into their computer database. When they need to fill a job opening, they simply search their electronic database and find candidates to fill these posts. Scannable résumés require specific page designs, as many computer scanners are unable to read certain things. Common points to remember include: no coloured paper, don't use italics or underlining or fancy bullets; don't use boxes, columns, or vertical lines. A scannable résumé is an invaluable part of your job search because you never know when you'll need one.

What is an e-Résumé?

An e-Résumé is a specifically formatted text into ASCII format. This format allows the text to be sent over all electronic medias, while keeping its margins and tabs. When submitting your résumé to an online job search site, they often request that you cut and paste your current résumé into their form so it can be posted to their network. If your résumé is not in an e-résumé format (ASCII) you will risk having the format show up all jumbled. Also, some organizations and recruitment agencies do not accept file attachments - instead they ask that you send your résumé in the body of an email only.
